A Brief History of the Electric Guitar

Developed in the 1930s, and perfected in the 1940s by Les Paul, the electric guitar has become the mainstay of Rock and most popular music. As an aid to rock musicians, transposition is achieved by a capo tasto that is fitted over the fretboard, stopping all the strings simultaneously. Modern electric guitars are strung with metal strings and palyed with a pick. The electric amplifier was developed to transfer the string vibrations into audible sound, and a wide array of effects pedals, adjustments, and other accessories have been developed to facilitate endless variations on the electric guitar sound.
