Guitar: Electric, Acoustic, Bass
Introduction to Guitars
The guitar's wide appeal as a folk instrument led to its current dominant role in rock and pop music. Although it is generally not a member of the orchestra, the guitar remains the most popular instrument in Western music. The guitar is broken into three major catetories:
Acoustic: made of a wood resonating chamber, six (or twelve) nylon or steel strings, a fretted neck and tuning pegs;
Electric: which normally has a solid body, metal strings, and electrical pickups to amplify the string vibrations, and;
Bass: a four or five stringed relative of the guitar and is used for producing low tones in music.
In recent years the Acoustic/Electric hybrid Guitar has gained popularity, as it resembles an acoustic guitar, but has pickups and may be amplified. Many of these models also include a built-in tuner.
